Spirits’ Spirits Remain High Despite Defeat
Carrboro, N.C. - The Street Walkin’ Cheetahs chalked up their first-ever victory against the Speakeasy Spirits on Thursday, winning 13-8. Even Spirits fans got caught up in the excitement, shouting appreciation for the Cheetah’s second basewoman’s play. After the Cheetah’s hit machine brought in two RBIs, slid into first, and casually dusted off her capri pants, coos of “I dig your style“ and “nice swagger” could be heard from the friends and family section near the Spirits dugout.
After the game, Spirits rookie A.C. Castellana acknowledged the need for the team to step it up. “We didn’t bring it today,” said A.C. “We’re gonna bring it on Tuesday, but we just didn’t bring it today.”
There were some bright spots for the Spirits, though. The top five of the batting order scored at the top of the first. Good throws and fielding from the outfield held runners that would’ve otherwise scored, and two Spirits booked it around the bases for inside-the-park home runs. However, a series of unforced errors plagued the infield at times, extending innings and offering the Cheetahs the pathway to victory - they took it.
When asked about changes the team could make to improve their chances in next week’s match-ups, including limiting pregame beers to two instead of the usual four or having players not show up stoned, veteran Spirits shortstop Al Hansson responded with, “It’s whatever.”
The Spirits’ next game is against 401 Wayne on Tuesday at 8:20. The next Greensboro St. rivalry contest between the Spirits and the Cheetahs is slated for the late game on Tuesday, May 13.
