Squids Steal Late Victory Against the Spirits
Carrboro, N.C. - Revenge was on the menu as the Fightin’ Squids faced the Speakeasy Spirits at Hank Anderson Park on Tuesday night - the Cephalopod squad seeking redemption after losing 15-1 in the previous match-up.
At the end of seven innings, the teams were tied with four runs each, and the Squids snagged the victory after scoring five runs in the top of the eighth. The win clinches the regular season title for Squids as the Spirits shift their focus to the playoffs.
“I’m just getting warmed up,” noted Hannah LaMarlowe, a first-year Spirit who had a standout performance on Tuesday. “And I’m doing it the clean way. No voodoo this time.”
Spirits' steady-hand Tony Davis turned to numerology while looking ahead to the Spirits' shot in the playoffs. “I wear number 81, a combination of 9 and 9. It represents the culmination of a cycle and the potential for new beginnings,” stated Davis. “And 9 plus 9 is 18, which is the number of beers always on tap at the Speakeasy - and always at a fair price.”
“Everyone’s got their thing,” noted Spirits’ pitcher Pat Muscarella while packing away his Tarot deck. “I won’t lie, when I draw the Ace of Swords or Six of Wands before a game, I just know I’m going to bust out.”
Looking ahead, the Speakeasy Spirits will face the Street Walkin’ Cheetahs tonight at Hank Anderson Park at 7:00 pm. With both teams having secured victories in the last two meetings, bragging rights are on the line as the Greensboro St. rivals face off.
